The Boys

Declan is the first horse I trained from the ground up. He went from a scared, dangerous to handle rescue to one of the kindest, most relaxed horses I’ve ever met. He was one of the horses assigned to me during my internship with the Gamilah Unbridled Rescue Project. We took in 7 of the most difficult rescue horses in the country and trained them through Liberty. Declan was considered “the kicker”, having broke a volunteer’s leg before coming to us. Now he knows Liberty, stands nicely to pick up all four feet, does obstacles, and side passes to the rail. He rides softly both under saddle and bareback and steers from a halter and reins or just a neck rope. After the internship, I adopted Declan. He and I have joined forces as “Team D&D” to teach Liberty and help rescues just like him believe that they’re good and worthy!

Ranger is my original rescue. He’s a cattle cross who came into my life from the Animal Humane Society during my time living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We’ve been together for many years and he’s been one of the most loyal companions a man could ask for. He’s lived and traveled with me all over the country and loves riding in the passenger seat. Some of his favorite activities are chasing sticks, smearing himself in cow patties, dipping in lakes and puddles, following along on trail rides, and flipping onto his back to wiggle in the grass!
